This course provides the skills and knowledge needed for the operations-level structural collapse specialist to rescue victims from a collapsed light frame and URM construction-type structure; including size up, incident action plans, search, cribbing systems, lifting and moving heavy loads, stabilization, breaching, and rescue. 

Prerequisites: Rope Rescue Operations or LARRO and Rescue Systems 1 (SFT) 

IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800 (FEMA)* 

Confined Space Rescue: Awareness (SFT) 

Structural Collapse Specialist (FEMA / computer-based training / 2017 or newer edition) – within two years prior to course registration

This five-day (40 hour) course is designed to meet certification requirements for Rope Rescue Technician. This training will include the participant’s ability to evaluate, manage, and perform a technical rope rescue as described by NFPA 1006 and NFPA 1670.  Topics: multi-point anchor systems, compound rope mechanical advantage systems, ascending and descending a fixed rope, fixed rope systems, patient pickoffs and highline systems, knot passing and litter attendants.

The Certification Evaluation is open FEMA Task Force candidates system-wide with a current FSA-LF or FSA-HR and are seeking certification or re-certification for a FEMA Canine Search Specialist Team. 

Los Angeles County Fire Department - Del Valle Regional Training Center

June 2-7, 2025

This course is a FEMA Sponsored Communications Specialist Course and is required to be deployable for emergency incidents. This class is designed for all students who meet the FEMA Task Force Position Description General Training Requirements. 

Enrollment is limited to 2 students per FEMA US&R Task Force. If additional spots are needed, please contact Nicole Paskey at nicole@goldenstatetraining.com or (530) 559- 6219 to be added to the wait list. All students will be registered for the Instructor–Led Training (ILT) Course within the www.esf9training.org Learning Management System by their Training Manager. All enrolled students will receive a confirmation letter with more detailed information including required equipment.
